Aluminium Smelter Horizontal Roof System

The Project

To install Fall Arrest Horizontal Safety Lifelines on aluminium smelter roof within the Middle East, compliant to EN795 and capable of fall arrest from height for the maintenance staff, without compromising the integrity of the existing roof and building structure.

What Rapid Rail Did

To ensure the roof safety system was suitable, we provided a complete structural design package to verify the fall arrest system capabilities and loads to the structure. Based on these findings, suitable steelwork was manufactured and installed, fixed through the roof sheeting and onto the main building structure. Suitable collars were also fitted to the new steelwork and roof sheeting, providing a weather tight solution to prevent the ingress of water into the building.

New brackets were fitted onto the new structural supports to complete the new horizontal lifeline system. Various systems were installed totalling 2000 metres of stainless steel Horizontal Height Safety Wire Systems. Each fall protection system designed to take the weight of 4 men minimum or more, based on individual calculations.

The Result

Despite the extreme temperatures, the horizontal lifeline systems were installed to design, on time and within budget. Even more importantly, with zero fall arrest incidents, thanks to our experienced and competent engineers and the support of the client.
